Motherhood and Patience

“Motherhood: Is a choice you make everyday to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own.  To teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing, even when you’re not sure what the right thing is. And to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong.” – Donna Bell

When I think of all the great Moms out there, I can’t help but think about what makes them so great.  They pay attention to the littlest details, they help teach their kid, they are their biggest cheerleader, but all of this comes back to a single word… PATIENCE.

My sweet sister told me something today that really stuck in my head.  She told me I was PATIENT.  Wait.. what? I consider myself to be many things; fun, sincere, selfless, down right awesome, but patient was never really high on my list. Its a trait I have always wished I could have, but I’m not sure how I achieved it.

Maybe the word patience comes with growing up? I have learned to try to gain an understanding of where the other person is coming from, even with Motherhood.

Maybe I am patient because I teach and explain, rather than blow up and criticize. It’s easy for us to see the logic behind things, after all we have years of experience a two year old doesn’t have.

Maybe it’s because I kiss the owies away instead of telling my kid she’s ok or to walk it off.

Maybe it’s because I hold my kid when she wants to be held, or because tenderly rock her to sleep.

I’m not sure, but I get it.

What I am sure of is this.  The days and nights as a Mother can be so very long, but they go by too quickly! I know there still may be days when I feel defeated, and doing more wrong than right. But, I know that if Little Goose calls for me I will be there.  I know that if she needs me to kiss her better, I will.  If she needs me to snuggle her, I will. I also know there will be a time where she doesn’t need me anymore.  So for now I will soak it all in and enjoy the journey.

I made that awesome quote a Free printable for you to use, this goes great in an 8×10 frame.
