Cheap Fall Decoration You Must Try

I love me some DIY activities, that are easy, fast, cheap and cute.

These cute pumpkins cost me less than $5.00 and will make amazing table center pieces for fall.  All of these supplies can be found at your local Dollar Store. ♥

Supplies you’ll need:

Yarn

Balloons

Elmers Glue

Fuzzy Piping

Scissors

Tape

Paper Towels

In this photo, there is also a bowl, I didn’t end up using it. 🙂

Lets get started.

Grab a balloon and blow it up to the size you want your pumpkin to be. My smallest one turned out the best 😉

Next grab your yarn and tie a knot on the balloon.  Proceed by wrapping the yarn around the balloon, every which direction. Once you’re done wrapping, you’ll want to cut the string about 6-12 inches and then tie it off.

Now you’re going to lay down your paper towels, we are about to get messy.

Then hang up your “pumpkins” using the tape.  I hung them up taping them to the cupboard.

Next we glue, oh boy do we glue! I section it off in pieces, add the glue, then spread it around with my fingers, making sure it gets all over the yarn as much as possible, paying special attention to the bottom of the pumpkin. I let them hang there overnight.

After the glue has been set, and the yarn hardened, carefully poke a hole in the top of the balloon, you don’t want the balloon to pop, just slowly release the air.  The closer you get to the knot, the less likely it is to pop. As it is slowly deflating, take your finger and gently push the yarn away from the balloon.  I would put my finger underneath the yarn and move my finger back and forth to remove the yarn from the balloon.

Then cut the excess string.

Grab your fuzzy pipe cleaners, wrap a brown one around some yarn, then continue to twist it around itself until it stands up, cut to desired length. Then wrap the green one around the brown one and cut to desired length. I used a straw to make the green pipe cleaner curl a little bit.

I love the way it turned out. My only regret is that I wish I picked different colors of yarn, instead of one yarn with multiple colors. I was thinking “oooh fall colors” when I bought it. Regardless, it looks great on my table as a fall centerpiece.
